Godwin Ihentuge has been moving in the Detroit food scene since (revolver) was a baby. A first generation Nigerian American, a childhood New York transplant, a Detroiter at heart. He literally represents Detroit ingenuity and hustle to his core. Godwin formed YumVillage, with (revolver) friend & alum Chef Brent Foster, back in 2012. They not only roamed the city producing amazing dinners in lovely locales, but they also formed an incubator to mentor young chef talent and help bring their skills to market. It was such a welcome idea, Godwin received $115,00 in grants from Motor City Match and the Entrepreneurs of Color Fund to help move it along. The first time we met him at (revolver), for a very sold out dinner series, was back in February, and he was looking for a home for YumVillage. Well, things move fast in Detroit, and Godwin has just announced that home is New Center. He'll be taking over the spot at 6500 Woodward Avenue, amidst a host of new development. So, in the very near future, you'll be able to stop in for his Afro Caribbean delights any time you'd like. For now, come taste what he has in store at (revolver).
The original art this dinner's gig poster is based will soon be available via Godwin's Kickstarter campaign that he's using to fund additional business expenses necessary to open and operate YumVillage. It's entitled Covered in Veil, and was painted by the incredibly talented Ghanaian artist Gordon Amponsah. Just a small gift from (revolver) to Godwin, both to support YumVillage, and to thank him for all the incredible work he's done in Detroit.
