SHE is Dorothy Hernandez.
A Filipino girl from Chicago. A lifelong student of Filipino cooking, thanks to her wildly talented Mother. The former Managing Editor of Hour Detroit magazine, where, way back in 2013, she penned of one of the first ever articles on a little restaurant startup in Hamtramck called (revolver). (thanks, btw)
HE is Jake Williams.
A Michigan boy who grew up literally ALL over the state. A Certified Executive Chef. A member of the 2014 US Culinary World Cup team, who competed in Luxembourg. The Coordinator of Gleaners Food Bank's very big-hearted Cooking Mattersprogram, teaching low income individuals how to cook healthy, balanced meals on a limited budget.
THEY are SARAP.
(and a super cute couple)
Sarap = "delicious" in Tagalong, the national language of the Philippines. But, the cuisine is waaaay underrepresented in SE Michigan. So, Jake & Dorothy did something about it. They drew on Dorothy's heritage and cultural knowledge, mixed it with Jake's culinary technique and industry experience, and SARAP was born. Modern Filipino-Inspired Cuisine, deeply rooted in tradition. Brilliant.
